SNMP Management
Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) is used in network management and monitoring the health and performance of network devices like routers, switches, firewalls, and servers. It collects data such as bandwidth consumption and interface status.
SNMP enables proactive monitoring by sending traps (notifications) when something goes wrong—like a device going offline, a port failing, or a temperature threshold being exceeded in a data center. This permits a quick response to outages or hardware failures.
It can monitor for unusual activity, like unexpected port activity or login attempts on a device, which might suggest a security breach.
Beyond traditional IT, SNMP is used in IoT environments to manage connected devices— smart thermostats, industrial sensors, or even printers. It ensures these devices are functioning and communicating properly within a network.
